You may have heard his voice on the video game “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas,” but you probably didn’t know that the same T-Bone Mendez paved the way for many Latino rappers of today’s generation in real life. From the barrios of East Los Angeles, Arturo Molina Jr. a.k.a Frost, emerged in the rap game as Kid Frost in the late 1980s and received mainstream success in 1990 when Virgin Records released his hit single “La Raza.” That same year, his debut album, “Hispanic Causing Pain” was released with many more to come.
The proclaimed “Godfather of Latino rap,” has influenced Latino rappers like Cypress Hill, A.L.T. and Baby Bash. From Virgin Records to Eazy-E’s Ruthless Records and a couple of independent labels, Frost still maintains his position in the industry. After 3 million records sold to date, Frost stated “I feel like I just keep getting better and better with time.”
Aside from his music, Frost makes time for something else important in his life…his dogs. Not his friends per se, but his American Pit Bull Terrier. “Man, when I saw the emergence of the bully, I knew I had to have one and raise one up,” he said. He and his dogs can be seen often strolling along the renowned Las Vegas Strip. “When I go out as Kid Frost, everybody shows me love…it was cool that they show the bully love too.”
