Growing up around pit bulls all of his life, Guyanese-bred dog breeder Fabian Chichester has been in the Pit game since 1990 where he was selling Red-Nosed pit bulls in the classifieds. In 1999, he purchased a puppy named Buddah from Ed Shepherd of Gottyline Pits for $1200 (which was the most he had ever paid for a pit). Back then, if you purchased a Red Nose dog for $400 or $500, one would say you were doing “big things.” Fabian noticed that the higher-priced pits were more to his liking and those were the Blue-Nosed pits. It wasn’t until Fabian came across a pit bull named Remy Martin that his luck changed significantly.
With a color reminiscent of the cognac itself, the pretty pit was no pick of the litter. “I got Remy for five hundred bucks and a treadmill,” said Fabian. “When I saw Remy, I pretty much was like man – that puppy is jacked up.” After taking his new best friend to the vet the next day, he discovered the puppy was sick but decided to keep the puppy and take care of him anyway.
As time went by and something preternatural happened. Hanging out at home with his friend Kenny, they were both playing with then six-month-old Remy. After Kenny left, Remy began to eat his food and literally began growing in front of Fabian’s eyes. He called Kenny to come back to the house and even though Kenny thought he was being facetious, he returned to the house anyway. When he saw Remy, he said “Dog, you’re right, he is bigger!” That day, Fabian new he had a keeper.
Although Fabian didn’t get Remy in immaculate condition, he comes from a bloodline of champions. Remy is a Razors Edge dog whose parents, Blue and Sage, were produced by the infamous Dave Wilson. Now with Remy in Fabian’s hands, he has started Remy Line; a strand of Razor’s Edge blood. Since starting Remy Line, Fabian has been receiving mixed reactions from some colleagues in the dog breeding industry. Although Fabian always acknowledges Remy is a Razors Edge dog, he says that one can differentiate between a Remy Line dog and another line because not only do Remy Line dogs look like Remy, but they act like him too...
