Q. Who is Byron of BossHogg Bullies?
I, Byron Hayes Jr. was born and raised in Houston, Texas where I have lived for my entire life. I am now twenty-nine and. for the last nine years, I've been breeding American Pit Bull Terriers. In addition, I am a pit bull enthusiast who has a vision to build a better reputation for pit bulls.
I have been a fan of the breed for years. In fact, I started breeding local bloodlines and one day I was introduced to the Razors Edge Lineage, created by Dave Wilson. I was amazed and fascinated by that line. At that point, my love for the breed became even stronger. The American Pit Bull Terrier is now a huge part of my life. I enjoy the breed and believe the American Pit Bull Terrier is the most loyal breed of dog in the world.
Q. How did you get into the dog world and into these bullies?
I was raised around American Pit Bull Terriers. In my younger days, my grandfather, Paul Hayes Jr. always had one as a loyal companion. In particular, I really remember an American Pit Bull Terrier by the name of Butch. Butch was one of my best friends. I'd practically ride Butch around as a kid. Days spent at my grandfather's house were the best because Butch was my toy! I didn't play with trucks and toys like most other kids. I played with an American Pit Bull Terrier. There was never a boring moment, because I always had Butch to keep me company. This is where my interest in the breed began.
I began to really focus on the breed in 1997. I didn't even know the Bully "type" existed until I saw Armani, a Razors Edge dog bred by Dave Wilson, on the cover of Bow Wow's debut album. This is when the American Bully "type" became the dog of my choice. Much respect to Razors Edge for producing such a magnificent strain of American Pit Bull Terrier.
Q. What bloodlines do you have and what makes your dogs stand out in this dog world?
I mostly work with "The Razors Edge Strain." I occasionally have a good outcross, but the Edge stain has been very consistent and uniform due to the hard work put into the breeding. The Razors Edge Dog is everything in one package. You get temperament, loyalty, drive, bone, substance, and conformity. Personally, I couldn't ask for a better strain of American Pit Bull Terrier lineage.
Q. Tell us where your dogs have been featured?
Well, almost everyone who is into The American Bully knows who Armani is. Armani was featured on Lil Bow Wow’s debut album. Also Maxx, "The Boss on the low", was featured on Houston's own Slim Thug's protégé's, the BossHogg Outlaws. The name of the album is Boys in Blue. There are three Razors Edge bred dogs on the cover of this album. Kannos' Shooting Astro, a AST was cameoed in Trae and Hawks, RIP video "Swang" a down south laid-back anthem. EZ, was featured in Young Joc and Trae's Video " In The Hood". We at BossHogg Bullies, or BossHogg Bully South, have many more plans for cameos, so be on the lookout for a Razors Edge/ BossHoggBully bred dog on the screen or in the magazine, because that won't be the last...
